Triple header announced for Emzone Radical Cup Canada’s final race weekend

Third race for Labour Day weekend to make up for non-points May 21 race after severe storm

ST. CATHARINES, ON (August 24, 2022) – FEL Motorsports has announced the plan to make up for a lost round of the Emzone Radical Cup Canada (Emzone RCC) presented by Michelin.

Following discussions with officials at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, a decision was made to add a third race to the end-of-season CTMP Labour Day Sprints weekend. This will make up for Round 1, which ended up as a non-points race on Saturday, May 21, after a derecho storm ravaged Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and left some teams unable to compete that day due to damaged cars and equipment. Chris Bye, president of FEL Motorsports, said, “We were pleased that we could still put on a show after the storm had passed, with a good number of our competitors racing for the fans who remained on site. But with some teams unable to compete, it was not fair to make it a points race. We’re very grateful that we can now end the season with a triple header weekend to complete the series for the points championship.”

The schedule will include two races on Saturday, September 3, and the final race on Sunday, September 4. Emzone RCC will be joined by the Sports Car Championship Canada (SCCC) presented by Michelin for the Labour Day Sprints weekend. SCCC will run two rounds worth double points to make up for the lost May races.

After winning the first seven races of the 2022 season, the driver with a target on his back is Emzone RCC series points leader Jonathan Woolridge, driving the number 77 Radical Canada/Emzone 2018 SR3 RSX car sponsored by CJ Campbell/Emzone. Chasing Woolridge in points is Matt Graham driving the number 31 Allingham Motorsport 2020 SR3 XX sponsored by Calabogie Motorsports Park, followed in third place by Tim Sanderson driving the number 77 Northwest Atlantic Motorsports 2019 SR3 RS sponsored by Northwest Atlantic.

The Emzone RCC race series features purpose-built, high-performance cars designed for competitive racing. The Emzone Radical Cup Canada race series with 20 registered competitors is building on its brand of motorsports excellence after an exciting inaugural season in 2021.
