FEL Motorsports adds Canadian racing legend Richard Spenard to their officiating team for the 2027 season. Spenard joins as Sporting Director for the Emzone Radical Cup Canada presented by Michelin
ST. CATHARINES, ON (October 21, 2026) – FEL Motorsports is excited to announce that Canadian racing legend Richard Spenard will join the organization in 2027 as Sporting Director for the Emzone Radical Cup Canada presented by Michelin.
In the role, Spenard will offer his expertise and support to FEL Motorsports Manager Peter Lockhart and Race Director Rolf von Engelbrechten. He will be closely involved in the review of on-track incident video and will support Rolf von Engelbrechten’s decisions alongside Peter Lockhart.
Spenard brings one of the deepest résumés in Canadian motorsports to the position. A Quebec native inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame in 2001, he raced Formula Atlantic as a teammate of Gilles Villeneuve, contested the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona, and took a Trans-Am victory at Road America. He won Canadian championships in Formula 2000, the Players GM series and the Rothmans Porsche Turbo Cup, and co-founded the Spenard-David Racing School at Shannonville in 1985, whose students included Jacques Villeneuve, Greg Moore, Patrick Carpentier and Ron Fellows.

We have heard our teams as we continue down this road, and bolstering our officiating team is an area where we will keep the pressure on. With the Emzone Radical Cup Canada presented by Michelin being the only ASN-sanctioned series in Canada, we feel this is an important step,” said FEL Motorsports President Chris Bye.
Chris continued, “It is also the richest Radical championship in the world, with over $20,000 in cash prize money and product giveaways each weekend. With over twenty cars consistently each weekend in 2026, we fully expect that number to grow in 2027 and beyond.”
